The Kama Sutra worm also known as BlackWorm, Nyxem-D, CME-24, Grew-A, Casper-A, Killav, Blackmal, Mywife-D and Worm.p2p.vb.cil didn't have much of an impact for two reason. 1. The writer was stupid. 2. users were prepared.

The virus writer made two stupid mistakes on this one. First, he gave everyone 2 weeks to prepare by coding the timer to go off the 3rd of every month but releasing it 2 weeks before the 3rd. This gave the anti-virus company's time to get out protection before it went off.

Second, the writer failed to code it so it could breech networked drives. Most enterprise networks store files on a centralized server instead of local drives. This virus could only destroy local files.

But don't count it out just yet. Its estimated roughly 350,000 PC's are infected and its still set to go off the 3rd of every month. Reports say in Milan Italy city government computers were shut down after being found infected. Also, reports say "a large US company" spent the last week cleaning off infected computers.
