Ya know what they teach in pre school they usually teach in daycare. We are talkining numbers, knowing your name, ABC's, basic colors and such. This doesn't take a certified daycare, headstart, or teacher to teach. These are basics that everykid should have. Do it yourself........ Geesh my 30 yo knew this stuff and got it thru daycare in DC........ he didn't go to school till he was in Kindergarten. There are plenty of daycares that have structured instruction..... the parent does have to follow up and reinforce what the child learns during the day. Daycares have structured instruction to apply for the enormous amount of grant money out there.

If your Daycare isn't helping you fill in the gap between school and "head start"............ ya better find one that does......... I'm sure there are some good ones still in DC.........Head start didn't teach my kids to read when they were 3............... the structured home life did........ and I was a single parent many times during the raising......... I never qualified either cause of home ownership - so I understand that too.......... didn't change what I saw as a parent responsibility. Ya just do what ya need to do. Don't worry - it all works out - when it's over you don't thank Head Start......... you thank your lucky stars that you had so much one on one with your kids......... and take pride in what you helped them become. Be proud of what you do!!
