| Many of you may not Like Ms. Hess, and you may not like her client, but as the paper states, there is documented evidence that the jailer lied under oath. Even the Judge agreed to that. This is not about who's job it is to make the phone call. Fact is, the jailer lied under oath. In which case, the perjurer should be held to the same standards as us common citizens, notwithstanding his position within law enforcement. If you believe in the rule of law and that all citizens are equal under the law, then you should applaud Hess for her crusade. This incident should not simply be dismissed as a "lapse in memory". The jailer could have simply answered "I don't remember", but instead he adamantly swore to his account, most likely to keep the case from being thrown out on a technicality. It is incidents like this that corrode the integrity of the legal system, undermine due process, and create disrespect for law enforcement and the court system. So put away your preconceived opinions of Hess and look at what has transpired in this case. If we let a perjuring LEO walk away without repercussion, it will be open season on your rights in the Dodge City legal system. For me, I applaud Hess for holding thier (LEO) feet to the fire, someone needs to.
