Law enforcement training instructor resigns amid investigation

By The News staff

An instructor at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center under investigation by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation resigned his post last week.

Ryan Bloom, Hutchinson, voluntarily resigned from the training center April 6, training center Director Ed Pavey said. Bloom had been a general police instructor at the center since January 2005.

Pavey would not comment on the details of the investigation but confirmed the probe and said the training center is cooperating with investigators.

Officials with the KBI, the Hutchinson Police Department and the Reno County District Attorney's Office all declined comment.

Bloom previously worked at the Dodge City Police Department and served one term as Trego County sheriff when he was appointed to the post in 2003. He's listed on the Fort Hays State University Web site as an online adjunct professor and as an adjunct professor at Hutchinson Community College in criminal justice.
