What IS art?

Lately I've been noticing restaurants, coffee shops and theaters that have, what I consider, crappy art work on their walls for sale.

I mean I look at some of this stuff and I think WTF were they thinking? Then I see a price tag of $250 with a sold sticker on it. Now I'm thinking someone paid for that?

So here I am trying to find some niche art for my photography to see if I can get on some wall somewhere.

But I don't want it to just be some CRAP that people buy because they think it must be art since it was on a wall where they get their latte. My name will be on it and I can't stand the idea of it being just crap.

So let's see what you all think...

Is this art?

Do you think people would pay for it?
