I know what my family went through to get here and be here. My great, great grandfather served twice, under two different names, to fight in the Civil War, and was shot both times. Got two pensions out of it.
My great, great aunt and her husband died in a Russian prison trying to bring their daughter here. Luckily she made it.
Half my family was wiped out by small pox and the dust storms, but the rest continued on. Every generation has served proudly for none of us have forgotten where we came from or what it meant for our ancestors to be free.
