The open hole is big enough to drive a train through although it's about 40 feet above ground. It's surrounded by a damaged area that could be 80 feet from top to bottom.

The tube that blew is used to hold grain as it is gravity fed down to waiting trucks, etc. and it endures lots of stresses as grain is moved from the facility.

This part of the entire elevator was said to have been built in 1929. Most of the currently used elevators were built in the Eisenhower administration or before.
