| Profiling is not simply a black and white issue. We all profile to some extent like it or not. The only time profiling becomes an issue is when your wrong. Here is a couple of scenarios.
Lets say there is a classic car show in Wright Park and you get a call of a drive-by just happened at the park with no description. You quickly get to 3rd and Earp just in time to see a 2002 F-250(club-cab) with 4 white kids in typical garb(cowboy hats, etc) turning west on Earp, and a 1964 Impala low rider with 4 Hispanics in typical garb(bandannas etc) turning east, which would you choose to pursue? Not too tough and you probably wouldn't catch hell if you were wrong.
Now lets make it a bit more interesting.
Same situation, only you find two low riders exiting the park. Same set of occupants but now your wide open for damed if you do, damed if you don't. Your experience as a police officer tells you to pursue the Hispanics as a first choice right? Now the big difference is IF you made the right choice no one would ever accuse you of profiling, but what happens if the Hispanics were innocent and it was the car load of white kids that were guilty.
Profiling is part of our every day actions it's only when the profiling proves wrong that the PC police scream foul.
