tdj - I take it you're an officer in blue. An' that's OK, but around here, it's not unusual to find a misspelling or two - heck, we even turn the English language around to suit our purpose. Don't be too hard on Tee. I'm not sure, but I think the gist of Tee's story is that he DID NOTHING WRONG - the mother lovin' truck passed him. Prolly at a higher-than-safe speed. True, he prolly (eek - my spelling!) should have kept his distance while he was following it, but if it would have happened to me or a hundred others, we wouldn't have wanted to have lost this idiot. You're right, of course. It is JAG's problem to fix, but why have a law on the books about covering a load if the officers called to the scene aren't going to try and enforce it? So that means that Coffin can thumb his pudgy little nose at whatever laws he sees fit - and let the insurance carriers fight it out with the claimant. Nice way to do business. Real nice.

An, wow! looks like Tex and Wordy beat me to the punch. They hadn't posted yet when I started my rant. Good goin'!!

ya know, I was finished and then I got fired up again! I hate when that happens. Road hazard??? Sprayed with rocks from a passing vehicle? Being in the insurance business, I can tell you truckers are responsible for the 'road hazards' they kick up. Flyin' rocks - everything. If a truck in front of me throws a rock up in my windshield and I get his tag number, he's buyin' me a new one. The insurance carriers will pay for them. The reason they do it with no questions asked is because part of the underwriting is seeing whether or not the damned loads are tarped. If they're not and they're breaking windshields and scraping paint off cars, then JAG suddenly is paying a bunch more for their insurance. Not only for Tee's sake, but for their own bottom line, they ought to see if they can't talk their illegals into tarping the loads for them.
