Two-thirds of the voters in Lincoln favored the smoke-free ballot measure in November of 2004. The law went into effect on Jan. 1, 2005.
Lincoln's smoke-free law prohibits smoking in any workplace, including restaurants and bars. Hotels are allowed to designate 20 percent of their rooms for smokers.
While some Lincoln businesses have indicated they failed because of the new smoke-free law, Burke (manager of health promotion for the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department) said, "I don't think we can say any business has failed because of the ordinance." |
