| Quiznos coming back to Dodge City Quote:
The Quiznos Classic Subs chain of sandwich shops is coming back to Dodge City, several years after it closed its store on Frontview.
A Quiznos shop is moving into the empty space next to the Spee-D Stop convenience store, 2615 Gary Ave. A crew is currently remodeling the space, and Quiznos hopes to open the new store by Sept. 18.
“We should be done with construction by the end of next week, and then we’re planning on a week of training,” said Terry Ens, Quiznos area director for Kansas. “And then we’ll be open, barring any major conflicts or anything.”
Quiznos used to have a shop at 202 E. Frontview St., where Ham’s Bar and Grill is now. But that store closed down several years ago.
Spee-D Stop owner Nageeb Alhaj, who owns the franchise for the new Quiznos as well as the River Stop convenience store in south Dodge City, said he applied for a Quiznos franchise six or seven months ago because he wanted to fill the empty space next to the Spee-D Stop.
“I think the city is in need of a different kind of restaurant,” he said. “We have a lot of taco places, but we need a traditional sub place. Quizno’s is nationally known for food quality.”
He added that a barbecue shop used to be next to his convenience store, but it closed down about eight months ago.
The new Quiznos store will be slightly smaller than the old location, and its design will reflect the company’s new look for its properties. The store will have approximately eight seats for customers, but most of its business will come from people who want sandwiches to go.
The store will employ six to eight people, and Jennifer Dobratz will be the new manager.
Ens said Quiznos officials are looking forward to returning to Dodge City.
“We’re very, very excited to be back,” he said. “We had a lot of really good customers and loyal followers who have wanted us to be back there for years.”
Alhaj said he was pleased to offer an alternative to Dodge City’s other restaurants.
“We are looking forward to giving more options for the people of Dodge more jobs, and an attraction for the city of Dodge itself,” he said.
