Ian Campbell was a key leader for the Cimarron Bluejays in football and basketball during his prep career. On Saturday, those leadership qualities were shown to the Kansas State Wildcats fans as the sophomore defensive end was a key part in K-State's 24-23 victory over Illinois State to open the 2006 season.
Campbell, in his first start for the Wildcats at left defensive end, made three sacks and ended up making the game-saving tackle on a two-point conversion. His final sack helped stop the Redbirds on their final drive. And although he ended up getting the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors for his effort, Campbell admitted he learned some things from the win that will make him even better.
"I felt pretty good about Saturday," he said. "I would have liked for us to play a little bit better, but we went out and got the win. I was pleased about my performance, but I could have done things a little better myself. I made a few mistakes, but overall, I was happy about how it turned out.....
