Database marking would be accurate for a person that uses more than one computer because it uses our servers database to track your activity (significantly increases the size of the database), cookies would not because it uses the cookie that stores the last post read to track your activity. If you use more than one computer, your most recent cookie would/might be on the other computer, therefore you would not get accurate post marking.
