What are the symptoms?
You said his OS recognized it. Does it attempt to dial?
Are you able to query the modem? go to phone and modems in the control panel, modems tab, select the modem properties, go to diagnostics tab, then choose query. Look over the query results. Does it appear to return the correct model number?
Also, is this internal or external? What model?
Have you tried using a standard modem driver? If this works then your driver is wrong. If it doesn't you have a connectivity (external) issue or a bad modem.
External modems: Have you tried a different cable?
Have you tried issuing a manual command at the command line prompt?
echo atdt2251111 > com1
echo=repeats your typed command
atdt=dial this number
2251111<-replace this with a real phone number
> =send output to...
com1 <--change this to the com port assigned to the modem
If you hear it dial then it is an OS or driver issue. if not, something else may be taking the resources for that com port or using the same IRQ.
