| Thanks Mike. Is your friends Minelab the Explorer II? I'd be curious to see one first hand before I buy one. I've heard they are heavy but I swung the old Whites Eagle Spectrum for 13 years and it's much heavier than the XLT.
The XLT is a great machine and I've done very well with it I'm just hoping the multi frequency will give me what I'm looking for. I've been detecting Wright Park for many years but the gold has managed to evade me so far. I know its there I just need a machine with a better ability to find it.
Don't get me wrong the XLT will find gold just as good but you need to dig lots of trash to find it. As you probably know gold reads in the same area as pull-tabs and aluminum foil unless its a medium sized 10k ring which reads around 18-22. I'm hoping the multiple frequencies give more detail on a target making it easier to tell gold from aluminum.
First off, I won't dig a target in Wright Park no matter what I think it is if I have the slightest notion I might damage the grass. First and foremost I leave a site exactly, if not better, than I found it. The only way you can tell I've been there is all the trash is gone on that area. Few things make me madder than finding signs that another detector has been in the park by leaving unfilled holes or damaged grass. I found a guy from Use-less detecting the park one day leaving holes and I made him stop and repair every hole. I appreciate my ability to detect Wring Park and I don't need some jerk screwing it up.
There's a lot of gold(rings, etc) to be found at the park with the right machine.
There is an area just north of the band shell roughly 20' out from the wall(little brick one) near the street that is virtually untouched. It is so littered with iron bottle caps you can't hunt it. If a guy was to have the time to clean out the caps I'm sure there is lots of goodies to be had. I'm hoping having multiple frequencies will also be able to read between all this iron. Some day maybe we could do some hunting.
