They can and they do. Even our news broadcasts. In previous wars even the news was filtered for this reason. I enjoyed the movie Wag the Dog but a lot of folks in the Klinton camp claimed it interfered with his ability to go after OBL. Giving up a few laughs is a small price to pay during war time.
