Illegals serving Illegals: Indentity scheme uncovered in Dodge City

Need a new identity? Need a job at Excel or elswhere but not a legal citizen. We got them for sale here in Dodge City.

A federal inquiry has uncovered an apparent false document mill in Dodge City, resulting in the indictment of five Mexican nationals on a slew of federal charges related to the manufacture and sale of phony birth certificates and Social Security cards.
Whole story here

How can you have a phony SSN with the technology we have today?

I just don't understand why we cannot implement a nation wide computer link with the social security administration for employers hiring prospective employees. The databases are already in place and bridging HR depts with the database for lookup and validation pruposes would quickly expose the fact that Jose Sanchez with SSN 555-55-5555 is currently working in 5 states concurrently. It would also catch bogus SSN's. As a computer tech, I could implement this search query system using SQL in less than 5 minutes. Not sure why the government, who have many more and smarter people than me on the payroll does not make this happen. Just ticks me off that we are still battling this problem when the solution seems so elementary.

Lets take the merchant services as an example. Every credit card machine checks your balance and the validity of the card upon every purchase you make. It is a little tiny $100-$200 machine that dials up or uses encrypted broadband to connect to Kansas BankCard System to run the check. THe database knows if you have money and how much. It won't let you spend money you don't have and it wont let you make up an account that doesn't exist. In the situation of the SSN's, the SSA already have the databases on every valid SSN. Why not provide read only encrypted access to the sytem that will crosscheck in the same fashion and require business with more than 5 employees to run such checks prior to employment.

Proposed plan...

Employers with more than 50 employees can opt to have a verification machine that costs around $150.00 or:
They do manual checks by calling 1-800-sssn-check and go through an automated system, enter your federal ID, enter the SSN and whalla, you get an authorization number to record on the W-4. The system should check to see if the SSN is valid and whether there are concurrent employment in other states that are currently active and reports back within milliseconds "approved" or "not approved" and then gives the hiring business an authorization number that they list on the I-9 or W-4 form for or new hire, for federal audits. For situations where people have more than one job, you speak to the operator and receive an exception code authorization number and it is noted in their file that they work more than one job in the same state. More than two exception codes trigger an alert to federal officials and is flagged on the businesses federal ID file.

Employers with less than 50 employees can use the automated system so as to save the 150.00 bucks.

Fine for hiring without a federal authorization number $5000.00 for first offense, $10,000 for second, ect.

Another thing that ticks me off...
Quote:
Unlawful possession of five or more identity documents, indicative of intent to traffic such goods, is punishable by up to five years imprisonment.
So I can have 4 identities and be safe....?? More than ONE identity, (or ONE FALSE identity) should get you the 5 years.

We need to get tough on the businesses that attract illegal immigration to our nation by turning a blind eye, and we need to get tough on those criminals that thwart the system using counterfeit documents. Not just those that produce the documents but thsoe that seek, puchase and posess.
