Only the education of the jury pool will solve this. Too many times, those that sit on the juries are thinking "if this happens to me, it's like winning the lotterty," so I should take care of that karma now.
Laws won't change it. Senators won't change it. Representatives won't change it.
Only until people sitting on juries — I hope my fellow board members don't try to get out of jury duty — make a stand that, you're right, Teddy, when you spent your rent check on booze and drugs, you should be compensated for the fact you staggered into the path of a family going to church and got run over, we, the jury, say you should collect $1.00, US Dollars, in damges for your pain and suffering.
That, my dear friends, is the only way this will end.
