I buy all my rods on Clearance Sales during the Fall and Winter. As many as I lose, break, etc., they do fine at a nice price!! Personally, I like light gear with good rod length when I am fishing for bass, walleye, crappie, and so on. Now if I am going for really BIG fish, big Wipers, or Big CATS, then I go with heavier gear. However, the lighter gear gives you more fun and "holler for your dollar"!! Also, takes more skill-------------
