We think we've come a long way in aiding in child development but from what I see kids are far worse off today. Going postal with guns in schools, running around in gangs willing to kill each other, and innocent bystanders, for nothing more than wearing the wrong color cloths and having absolutely no respect for themselves and others.
We bitched because Bush refused to except that his plan for Iraq was not working and wanted to "stay the course" yet we are guilty of refusing to except that regardless of what physiologists think our kids are in trouble. What we are doing is not working and needs to be reevaluated.
We can lay the blame on parents, and to some degree it's true, but in reality I believe it is the liberal society we live in. We try and treat kids as adults when they aren't. We empower them with Rights which they have yet to earn and so don't understand.
I've heard the excuse that it's because today both parents are forced to work leaving kids to fend for themselves. To that I say BS. Both my parents worked as did the parents of most my friends and none have suicidal tendencies or postal tendencies. Plian and simple it's a lack of moral teaching. Kids today don't really understand right and wrong in the sense most of us do. To them Right is something given to them at birth and wrong is only a matter of your view of the Constitution.
By treating kids as adults they now expect the same rights and see themselves as equals. I'm sure some of you liberals are saying well it's true. I say pat yourself on the back for being the major problem in our society. You've done what liberals do best. |
I definately agree!! Kids can pretty much get away w/ anything now, even when I was in school we got away w/ alot more than we should've. I'm not sure whether to place part blame on teachers and faculty though because if you speak in the wrong tone or say the wrong word, the student knows he/she can twist that to make it sound hurtful to them therefore the teacher/faculty getting in trouble for it. I think uniforms have pros and cons just like anything else. I agree w/ whoever said that the uniforms should be ordered out of a certain catalogue or something. If they're going to have uniforms I don't think just a color should be specified.
I think alot of kids have no respect for anything anymore. They know more about taking advantage than respect. Seeing how alot of these schools are ran, I'm considering just home schoooling my son!! He's 3 and I hear him say please, thank you and excuse me more often than most adults. He knows to respect his elders and other authority figures. He's not allowed to use words such as ugly, stupid etc. because he knows they can be hurtful.
He can also be easily influenced as well, thanks to a kid at school he now thinks kissing his mom and dad are gross!! He kissed his dad good bye after being dropped off at school and another child remarked how gross that was, and my son broke out in tears because he thought he was doing something wrong. We had a talk and he now understands its ok for him to kiss and hug us.
I'm not that old, but I do remember when people held the door for eachother, helped or being helped by someone and not having to worry your going to be taken advantage of. Hearing people say excuse me instead of pushing you out of the way. I dunno though, times have definately changed
