If you are talking about TaxCut, it automatically did one update on the 29th when I installed it. Then when I finished my return on the 30th at the end of the Federal return you have to click update before it will let you move on to the state portion of the return. It wouldn't let me move on until after the 31st, when another update was available. Then I just clicked the update button, then finished my state return. I e-filed them both on 2/1. Got an email yesterday that the IRS accepted my return and an email today that the State of Kansas accepted my return.
PS: I have an always on Cox internet connection. I understand that Cox internet has been going down in some parts of the city while they are working on cable line. So far, my neighborhood has been lucky and not affected.
