(City to consider banning weapons on public property) "What concerns is Mr. Pederson talking about? I would rather have 30 armed law-abiding citizens on city property carrying a concealed weapon than a criminal, who does not obey laws or ordinances anyway, carrying one."

(City to consider banning weapons on public property) "This proposed ordinance is an insult to the hundreds of thousands of citizens who are documented to be honest and law-abiding by virtue of having met all the standards, including background checks, to allow them to qualify to have a concealed carry permit. Such citizens are not the ones to be feared, but instead would be capable of dealing with someone who is a threat to the community."

(Banning weapons on public property) "New sign posted at all city owned property entrances: 'Attention, criminals: All citizens occupying city-owned properties have been disarmed for your convenience.'"

(City to consider banning weapons on public property) "The proposed ordinance is just plain ignorant and knee-jerk. There is more than enough empirical evidence out there proving that legally armed citizens are THE LEAST LIKELY to pose any sort of threat to the community, whether it be via ignorance, negligence or malice!"

(City to consider banning weapons on public property) "I find it odd that the intent of the ban is to 'reassure both city employees and the public that they will be safe in city-owned buildings, facilities and parks,' when, in fact, it will just reassure the criminals that those locales will not have citizens capable of fending them off. Only criminals and police will be armed the criminals can spot the police, but not the other way round. Who is safer now?"

"I just watched the last commissioners' meeting. I cannot believe four commissioners want to set the law on concealed weapons. Kansas passed a law as it should be. Enough! Why don't they ever listen to Terry Lee and the public instead of being so high and mighty for just their ideas?"

This is for Jim Sherer. Mr. Sherer believes that he has to worry about only 100-110 voters who have a concealed carry permit from the State of Kansas. What he should realize is that there are thousands of people here in Ford County and Dodge City that DO WANT Kansas State Certified persons, who are non-felons, with no history of mental illness, to have a license to carry concealed weapons. Why try to fix what is not broken?
