Bank of the West

A few things I've found out about Bank of the West.....

A customer at the business where I work, wrote us a NSF check on an account at Bank of the West, I called the bank after we recieved the returned check to verify if the funds were available now, I was told that they will no longer verify funds and that I would have to call an 800 number. ok fine I called, and punched the buttons on the automated system only to find out, that they CHARGE you to find out if the check will clear, not once, but EVERY time you call hoping that they made a deposit and you'll be able to get the check to clear. I'm thinking the fee was somewhere between 5 and 10 dollars, which doesn't make any difference because if the fee was a nickle it was still ridiculous. I was appalled, but ok, thought I'd just walk the check to the bank and see if they would cash it. which means if your a business they issue you a money order or cashiers check....which they charge you for if there are sufficient funds in that account, NOPE I was told if the check had not been sent through twice that I could not do that.

Another situation....
A friend of mine closed their account with Bank of the West, and he was issued the balance on that account. Months later he receives a notice from them, stating that they overpaid him by dollar and a few odd cents and they want their money.....ok give me a break...your kidding. They have now sent it to the collection agency, whom has sent him a letter saying the account has been handed over to them and they want that money along with interest, which I believe was 2 cents. They have now spent more money on postage, and manpower than they will collect, on what was thier mistake in the first place.......I'd laugh if it was just so stupid.

Sometimes you just have to shake your head and wonder what certain banks will do to collect fees.
