We've had some good political and religeon discussions that were amicable and thought provoking. The ones that go bad are when people get personal with name calling and such.
I believe you can choose whether you take the bait and take it personally or choose to ignore it and stay on topic. If you take the bait, then the thread topic changes to a "yes you called me a name- no I didn't" thread, like the recent CCH thread did.
And while I weighed in at my disgust, I was speaking to both parties. Bubba took it wrong and hasn't returned. Another example of taking things way too personally.
Basically, what I am saying is..we can't be too serious. Don't take the bait intended to deflect you from your viewpoint and exploit your personal weaknesses. Keep an open mind and sincerely try to consider other points of view. I think we will find that on some subjects, we will agree with our biggest foe.
