[quote=The Drifter;34459]i hate seeing political debates on this site. I see a thread that smells of politics and i wonder how fast it will spin out of control. There's a few conservatives who blame every problem on the democrats(as a whole) and then the liberals blame those same things on the republicans(as a whole). It's dumb and repetitive."

My problem is not with political debates per se; it's with debates on any subject (not just on this site, but everywhere) that degenerate into petty insults that do nothing to illuminate the topic.

If I can back up my opinion with facts, I'll post a comment on the issue of the day. If not, I'll keep quiet. That rule works well for me, and it saves me from getting involved in pointless arguments. (Note: This is just a rule I follow and is not intended as criticism of anyone else.)

Spirited debate is a great thing, and it's an essential part of democracy. Name-calling and insults just create more heat with very little light.
