| Many years ago there was a presentation at the Lions Club by the Ammonia Plant manager, where he stated that wells were drilled east of the plant and the contaminated water was pumped to the plant and purified at their water treatment plant and then re-injected into the aquifer. Don't know if this still goes on. The reason for the wells being east of the plant is because on the water flow in the aquifer from west to east. That is how I remember it, and hopefully, my feeble brain remembers it correctly.
