| Sorry Bubba, I do not intend to get in a shouting match, BUT the City has in the Bank about 14 million (14,000,000.00) dollars. The Judge did not say what the cost needs to be. When Mr. Tom Martin, Ex City Commissioner was on the board, he made a motion to only spend $20,000.000.00. As of this date any commission has not changed it.
You have to remember the City still will be getting about 1 1/2 million dollars for their share every year. If they would spend the sales tax money like it was out of their (Commissioners) pocket, they could build an Event Center. Bonds will have to be sold to finance this project, so they will be paying for 25-30 years. When bonds are sold the City will be responsible to have enough money to make payment.
Think about this, if you were to build the Event Center for 31 million of 43 million and it will have an over run as all projects have a record of doing, we do not have any idea what the cost will be. If you have been watching the news at Wichita, they are having the same problem as Dodge except a much larger scale. They can not hold the line on cost.
We have some people that want the Center, (no I do not put you in that class) even if it could take the City down. A certain group will make money on this project, and then laugh all the way to the bank. |
