They had every right to be outraged. The idea that you have to be familiar with any member of the media before you're allowed to be outraged over his/her comments about you is ridiculous. Imus had a nationally syndicated show and he was heard by millions each day. Imus made harmful comments about a group of people that had done nothing at all to deserve it.

Personally, I think the Tennessee women should have been pissed at Imus too. He didn't disrespect them as much as he did Rutgers, but his comments were sexist and lame nonetheless. He brought up the championship game between Rutgers and Tennessee solely to make comments about each team's appearance. In his opinion, the Tennessee women were "cute", and the Rutgers women were "nappy-headed ho's". That was it. No discussion of the game itself, other than saying that Tennessee won.

I'm not getting all bent out of shape about the simple idea of calling someone cute or ugly, but given the context of these comments, it was in very poor taste. If Imus doesn't care for women's basketball, he shouldn't watch it, and he certainly shouldn't make damaging comments about it on the air.
