It looks like if forensics is needed (which in a murder case or unexplained death there would be) they don't have much choice but to call in the state. Looks like locals don't have the same resources. I know if it's just detective foot work needed - our locals don't call in the state. I doubt that when a LEO is in the picture that the first thing they do is call the state. It probably has everything to do with the type of crime and not the company she kept.
