Goldfish found alive in Greensburg rubble
GREENSBURG, Kansas, May 14, 2007 (AP) – Among the survivors of the massive Greensburg tornado – a goldfish.
The Pratt County Humane Society says the goldfish was in a fish tank found intact under the rubble of the EF-5 twister that destroyed the town May 4. Humane Society manager Alice Bailey said everything around the tank was demolished.
About 200 pets have been claimed by their owners, and 100 other animals – including the goldfish – are being cared for by the humane society in a Department of Transportation building. They're expected to be moved to the humane society this week.
Bailey said she'll wait 30 days for owners to get their pets, then they'll be adopted out – and none will be put down. Tornado victims who can't take their pets now can board them at the Humane Society.
