Tahah, who had been with the police department for three years, came under suspicion immediately after Jones' death because he was her ex-boyfriend, Dodge City Police Chief John Ball said. He was suspended with pay, which is city policy any time an officer is investigated for a felony.


Ball said as soon as investigators determined a police officer might have been involved, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation was called to investigate.


Dodge City human resources director Cherise Tieben said the city began a separate investigation into separate violations of departmental policy at the same time.

I wonder if some evidence surfaced during the PD's initial investigation that enlightened the PD about violations of "departmental policy" or if the PD simply decided to cover their asses about some known violations?
