GREENSBURG, Kan. (AP) - Residents of tornado-devastated Greensburg, Kansas, celebrated their high school's commencement Saturday, mixing tearful memories with promises to rebuild.
Under two large tents set up at the town's golf course, 25 graduates from Greensburg High claimed their diplomas before a crowd of about 15-hundred family members, friends and neighbors.
Across town, their school - like 95 percent of the community - lay in rubble from the May fourth tornado that killed ten people.
U.S. Senator Pat Roberts told graduates their commencement was part of the rebuilding of the community and has the "respectful attention and admiration of millions of Americans."
Co-valedictorian Slade Headrick told classmates how he got lost when he first came back to Greensburg after the tornado because all the landmarks were gone. He said the town will be rebuilt "bigger and better" than it was.
