Police: Man Dies Trying To Kill Woman With Train - Local News Story - KPRC Houston

SUN VALLEY, Calif. -- A man trying to kill his girlfriend by stopping a car on railroad tracks died when a commuter train slammed into the vehicle Monday, according to police.

The woman survived and was said to be in stable condition Tuesday.

The crash happened in suburban Los Angeles. Witnesses said the couple was seen arguing moments before the crash.

A spokesman with the Los Angeles Police Department said the man drove around two cars and past the lowered crossing arms. He parked the Dodge Magnum on the tracks with the passenger's side toward the oncoming train, according to police.

The spokesman said the man was attempting to abandon the car, but the vehicle spun and hit him as he tried to flee.

The woman remained in the vehicle.

The crash occurred at about 12:10 p.m, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"What happened here today was a driver deliberately parked his car on the crossing with the intent of killing the female passenger in car," said Denise Terrill of Metrolink. "This was a deliberate act."

There were no injuries reported aboard the train, Humphrey said.

The circumstances of the crash were under investigation.
