| deuce,
When the president goes off on his own and does what he thinks is right insted of listening to the rest of the country then the Congress has the responsibility to bring him back in balance by checking what he does.
All 3 branches of government are co-equal and none should have more power than the others.
This administration has done all it can to consolidate as much power as possible with the president.
The voters spoke when they gave Congress a new majority in the last election and the president isn't listening. Unfortunatley that majority is too slim to push through everything that needs to be done and maybe we can hope for more in 08, we'll see.
Congress needs to keep plugging away to make this president successfully listen to the voters.
While they work to overcome the slim majority problem they can spend time giving this president something he's never had to deal with since coming to power, oversight.
They may not have the votes to overcome a veto but they now have the power to shine a light on what's been going on in the White House and the rest of Congress as well.
