That is why they would only report facts. Example, "John Doe was arrested today for suspected sexual misconduct with a minor." If that is a fact, there are no repercussions. You are not reporting guilt or innocence, you are reporting the arrest. It is done all the time...here is an example.

Police ID suspect in bar shooting

Wichita police are looking for a gang member in connection with the shooting death last week of Half-Time Sports Bar owner Teresa Hastings.
Donavan L. Thompson, 20, "is considered a suspect in this case," Capt. Randy Landen said Wednesday.
Thompson is described as 6 feet tall, 165 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He typically wears his hair in braids and goes by the street name Scrap, Landen said.
Police have said a group of gang members refused to show a bar employee their IDs when they tried to enter the bar at 3120 E. Harry the night of June 5. Hastings refused to let them in.
An argument started between the group and patrons inside and spilled into the parking lot, where someone opened fire. Hastings was shot, and a 24-year-old employee was injured. The man was not seriously wounded, but Hastings, 42, died about 3:30 a.m. June 6.
Landen said additional suspects in the shooting could be identified during the investigation, which continues.
