The dealership is on the hook for your damage unless the tag was not on the vehicle with their permission. If a person would take a dealer vehicle for a test drive and get into an accident, the dealership is on the hook if the driver's insurance doesn't cover the damage.
There are rules that go with dealer plates, such as, Salesmen can use one on a dealer supplied vehicle for his own personal use. The wife can also (but I forget if it's the spouse of the salesperson, or the wife of the owner, can use a dealer tag for personal use of a dealer supplied vehicle. But, friends, and neighbors, and their kids can not use a dealer tag. I *think* the Kansas Department of Revenue would be the agency to make an inquiry or complaint.
Also as a correction to an earlier post, you would need to call the State Insurance Commissioner rather than the KS AG. |
