If the casino passes (yes, I hope it does!), it's not a done deal that Butler OR Boot Hill Gaming will get the contract with the state to operate the casino. This vote is for allowing the state to place a casino within Ford County. We residents are voting in confidence of the state of Kansas. It's that simple. The rest of it, placement, who will operate, etc. will be set by the Kansas Lottery Commission. I've heard rumors in the wind that the indian tribes are very interested in operating these new casinos across the state. One of the tribes could very easily outbid Boothill Gaming and take hold of the casino license.

If that were to happen, they could potentially build it anywhere in Ford County they see fit. Half way to Minneola, Spearville, Bucklin (along US 54). The voters are getting confused, and it's a shame. The reason there isn't more information is there isn't any to give.

What really hacks me off are when the residents vote for something and then want to dictate exactly what will happen. I don't remember the average citizen deciding where the DCRP went. Or where Legends went. Or where Wal-Mart when looking to build the new dumphole they call a Supercenter, a private company like the casino developer, went. (Really, if we wanted to start cleaning up the town, how about starting with the inside of that store and the litter in the fields surrounding it!) That company, or the city, bought the land and developed their buildings and such in the way that best suited them. Shouldn't it be the same with all private enterprises?

I could be all wet here, but we are trying to run 10 miles without taking the first step. If you want a casino in Ford County, anywhere mind you, vote for it. If you don't want a casino located in Ford County, then vote no. Just remember, this isn't a vote for or against Boothill Gaming. This vote is with the state lottery.
