What projects should be funded by WND money that are being funded by property tax dollars?
We should shut All-4-Fun down because it doesn't make money....hmmmm, maybe we should shut down the City swimming pool because it doesn't make money, while we are at it we better shut down the Sheridan Center and Mariah Hills because they don't make money. We wouldn't want to put a drain on the city budget. Did I forget anything? Maybe the Library, I would guess that we spend more money keeping it open than it brings in.
So, it hasn't made what they hoped, I have still gone by it of an evening and on weekends and seen quite a few people there. There are plenty of things in Dodge that don't make money, but are good community service places that keep children occupied in ways other than joining a gang and plastering graffiti in the neighborhoods! |
Projects that have been funded with property taxes that should be funded with WND taxes:
The concrete poured around the Civic Center to the tune of $375,000. The Civic Center and improvements there are considered, even by city commissioners, a WND project. They even said that the next time concrete is to used at the C.C. WND money should be used. (a good deal)
All 4 Fun would certainly qualify as another WND project under "other related projects" as voted on June 10th, 1997. The only reason property taxes were used on this project is because the city commission thought it would take to much work to bring the County on board, so they settled by using property tax dollars.
Those are just two example of how WND is causing our property taxes to increase.
I fear more are to follow!
All 4 Fun should never have been operated by the city in the first place. It is wrong, IMO, for the city to put itself into competition with the private sector for recreational revenues. Besides that Gov't. is inept at operating a business.
As far as your comparison with the pool, library, golf course: Those have been traditionally accepted ,not only by Dodge but other communities as well as quality of life services.
As far as kids going there at tax payers expense to keep them out of trouble: I agree, but when did I become their babysitter? We have the Alley which is not supported w/tax dollars, which I choose to support because it is a great example of concerned citizens who care about our youth.
It has become to easy for Government to take over the responsibility that ought to be that of parents and community. Gov't programs have created more messes and abuses than we'll ever be able to striaghten out!
Less Government involvement is what we need! Including their taxes!
sunny beach,
In no way am I attacking our city/county commissioners on a personal basis. They are honest, hard working men who care about our community. What I object to is their priorities. Nothing personal towards them (or you) at all!
