E. Coli is just an indicator bacteria, as it naturally lives in the intestinal tract of humans and animals. Just because it is present, does not mean that their is any danger. The KDHE requires municipalities to inform the public if they are in violation. However, in my opinion, it does little good to inform us so long after the fact. It does take awhile to get a report back from the State though, as they process a very high volume of samples. As for your concern for your baby, Army, the nitrate levels are of a concern due to oxygen depletion which causes a condition called "blue baby syndrome". |
