Is it worth it in the long run for the city to pay for it with tax payers $$. They should take that money and clean up the city, fight crime and make this a decent place to live. THEN there might be enough people here to fill up ALL FOR FUN on a daily basis. Dodge wants to have this and that but until you clean up the town and curtail the crime you are putting the cart in front of the horse. Before anything else is built etc why don't they make this a better place to live. |
I agree 110%! We have young people leaving Dodge City (by the droves) after High School, they go to College and get a job in a larger city and they only come back to visit friends and family.
A four year college would fit this community nicely. However, since that may not happen, we should look at cleaning up our messes and start encouraging businesses to come here. I have always said "Why Not Dodge?" for new businesses. Dodge City/Ford County Developement Corp. needs some authority granted to them to start cutting some major deals. I have nothing against using tax abatements and other incentive to bring new industry into our community! Other incentives may include capital and utility abatements.
We've got to do something soon! Otherwise our young people will dry up just like our wells!
