| To the rescue, Lurker! This was a scheduled event for the new Sprint Center up here - scheduled to open next month. I do believe the City was trying to show as much usage as possible in order to make the citizens "believe". I don't think the behind-the-scenes knowledge was known to everyone when "they" threatened to take their meetings elsewhere. It was only about the money. I, for one, believe the City needs to stand their ground, as I now know more about LaRaza than I ever wanted to. The thing is, if the City of Kansas City (MO) backs up and accepts LaRaza's threats and fires Ms. Semler, then they have a black eye. I dunno if Ms. Semler is the best person to have on the Parks board - I can't see it's a big enough issue for LaRaza to make a big scene about. One thing for sure. LaRaza has more money than we think they do if they can cancel convention contracts and move it without a second thought.
My own thought (since I'm not a tax paying citizen of KCMO) is that the Mayor needs to stand his ground. I can't see that Ms. Semler's outside affiliations threaten her position on the parks board. That's just simple. Does it threaten illegal immigrants? I dunno that, either. But if it does? Fabulous! They are not in a position to make our laws. Period.
