I recently wrote our U.S. Senator Sam Brownback. In that letter I expressed to him my concerns about illegal immigration. I don't remember exactly what I wrote, but it was along the lines of...
if the US government isn't going to take the necessary steps to put an end to illegal immigration the least they could do is perform stricter identification verification to people applying for and receiving government assistance in the way of food stamps, medical assistance etc. To make sure that they are in fact U.S. citizens and are truely eligible to recieve this assistance. The illegals that drain our tax dollars by stealing American jobs and entitlements that are meant for U.S. citizens is a huge drain on our economy and budget. I for one am tired of my tax dollars going to somebody that isn't really eligible to receive them.
I got a letter from him today in response. It reads as follows:
Quote:
Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding the federal budget. I always appreciate hearing from my fellow Kansans.
Federal tax dollars are a finite resource, and when considering their allocation, it is essential that I hear from Kansans such as yourself. The insights that you provide on the various needs across our state are essential, and I certainly take them into consideration as I determine how to vote on legislation that would provide funding for various priorities.
I also believe it is important for us to eliminate government waste, and trim the federal bureaucracy. That is why I have introduced legislation that would create a commission to annually review all non-defensive spending by the federal government and then make recommendations to eliminate wasteful spending. By reducing or eliminating inefficient and unnecessary programs in the federal government, we will be able to both further lower tax rates, and concentrate funding where it is most needed.
Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me, and rest assured that I will keep your thoughts in mind as the Senate considers the federal budget.

Now I may be a dum kuntry boy, but I don't see where he actually answered anything about my concerns. A typical politician, giving a big answer that doesn't really answer anything. It just skirts the issues.
I did find it amusing that he talked about how important it was to eliminate government waste, and trim the federal bureaucracy. Then, in the next sentance he brags about how he introduced legislation to create a commission to review non-defensive spending.

How is creating another government commission trimming the federal bureaucracy?
I am thinking this is one politician who has become to full of himself

and is due for a change! Read my first sig line for clarification.
