I missed the report but I’ve been able to catch some of the Q & A. It isn’t had to figure out party affiliation when you listen to the questions. Democrats are just short of calling them liars. We know they want to but with approval polls showing Petraeus and the military getting a much higher rating by the public than the sinking poll numbers of Democrats it wouldn’t go over very well. So the Dems get the nutroots to do their dirty work.

Letting the anti-war groups take on Petraeus or Crocker.
These groups have no problem going after Petraeus, as evidenced by heavy criticism of him by Americans Against Escalation in Iraq (“It is clear that Americans cannot trust any assessments that come out of this White House, or Gen. Petraeus when it comes to the war in Iraq”) and the Center for American Progress, among others. But it is a tactic that Democratic lawmakers themselves want to avoid. “No one wants to call [Petraeus] a liar on national TV,” noted one Democratic senator, who spoke on the condition on anonymity. “The expectation is that the outside groups will do this for us.” Between Iraq report and a hard place - John Bresnahan - Politico.com |
Sure enough, MoveOn.org ran a full page ad that got several comments in today’s hearing.
MoveOn.org Political Action: General Petraeus or General Betray Us?
It’s really a crock when some folks are willing to publicly trash a man that has spent 35 years in the military serving his country for political reasons while claiming to support the troops. What a bunch of hypocritical *******s.
