I am a smoker and have been paying higher rates for the last 5 years. In that time I have been to the doctor 3 times, none of them caused or influenced by my smoking. I have missed a total of 5 sick days, 3 of them for my kids. My co-worker who does not smoke misses an average of 3 days a month of work, gets the flu or cold at a drop of a hat, has more medications than I have ball caps and pays less in premiums than I do. Now, I accept it because I understand that my situation may be the minority and I knew the rules before entering the game but I do not agree with smokers costing more than non-smokers. I think the companies look for a way to save money and jump on every chance they can and "bad" behavior is hard to justify.
