video editing

Looking for some good avi/mpeg compression software for making youtube videos, What does everyone use out there? any free stuff worth downloading? free codecs you use?

Trail software is worthless with watermarks. I have been using movie maker that comes with nero dvd, but when I upload and play, my music tracks skip bad, and the video hangs and stops at a certain point. clicking the time line lets the video continue without any audio.

Plays fine locally as avi, dvd, or mpeg but of course the mpeg and dvd copies I have are too huge to upload.

What is the best compression or codec to use to make file size as small as possible? best I have is Mpeg4 v1, v2 to make avi's , Maybe it is the audio compression?

Could be there is nothing wrong with the upload, and it is my dsl speed that messes everything up when I do a playback after upload. Plays fine locally.

Do the switch videos play right in the boards vbTube? I play them and it skips and is out of snych with the singers mouth movement real bad (it was never perfect, but close)
