The first thing I see that is an issue in DC is that the last time I was there - ya'll didn't have a mental health deputy that could interviene with folks that are "off meds" and "misbehaving" The person literally has to break the law to get into the penal system to recieve the help they need often times. If theyy are not a danger to themselves or someone else they serve time and go back on the street without intervention at all. This lady it sounds like had been in Larned. Not the best mental health facility of all time but will do in a pinch. Most mental facilities keep you till your insurance quits paying (bout 2 weeks) then boots you out the door and bam - you are once again doing the dance with the cops cause your meds are screwed up and you aint right and there is no help. Vicious circle. I think if she was trying to hand over the gun to security at the hosp or to the ER staff - as a nurse that tells me she was seeking help the only way she knew how. Sounds like she's done this waltz numerous times. It's sad what ya have to do to acess mental health in this country.
