The way a real scientist would do it is to break down the birth rates of whites, blacks, Hispanics etc and see if all groups rose at the same rate or if it was limited to only one or two groups. He would also break it down by regions like the Northeast, South and Midwest etc. Also break it down by urban and rural. The more factors you look at the more accurate you can be about finding the common denominators and therefore the root causes.
