I’ve heard some discussion about this and the movie in itself isn’t supposed to be such a big deal. There is a problem beyond the movie and that is the encouragement of young folks to read the books where the real anti-Christian message is conveyed.

And what better way to push that message to the children than to teach it in school. Scholastic.com offers lesson plans to make that easy.

The Golden Compass: Language Arts Lessons & Activities

Welcome Teachers! We hope you enjoy this language arts program featuring The Golden Compass, the soon-to-be-released film based on the multi-award-winning novel by Philip Pullman. You’ll find turnkey, skill-building materials on symbolism and characterization that help students understand the relevance of literary themes in their lives. The lessons and activities, while connected to the book and film, can be taught independently to supplement any language arts curriculum. There’s also an amazing student sweepstakes: Grades 8-12 students can enter for a chance to win a Hometown Movie Screening or one of 500+ other prizes!

Isn’t it about time we shoved the separation of church and state up somebody’s rear over this?
