I never thought it would happen to me-

But I agree with Detector.

Look, the smoking ban is a bad idea on so many levels. Here are just a few:
1) There are much more important issues that the City should be looking at-let's focus on getting the big things right first, shall we? This issue shouldn't even be on the table and is a distraction.
2) If safety is the issue, let's go after obesity and alcohol. Those are the big issues.
3) The science is fuzzy on the danger of smoking to smokers. The second hand smoke issue is even fuzzier. Just think about it-why don't we all have lung cancer? The 20th Century had more smokers in the U.S. than in any other time...if it is so dangerous, where are the dead?
4) The government has no reason to intervene here. The law infringes on the rights of businesses (especially bars but also clubs and such) to do their business. If I can't smoke at my favorite bar, I'm going to smoke somewhere else-and I'll drink there too.
5) Even if this law is passed, who is going to enforce it? The police don't enforce many of the laws that we have now. Many of these laws are in court being contested or are simply not enforced at the local level.

In short, people need to speak up about this at the meetings and call their favorite Commish. Why are we wasting time on a law that will hurt businesses and will not be enforced anyway?
