| These pop-ups are there to protect your system. When you ran the update it probably replaced some essential libraries(DLL/OCX) files all window applications use. If they are being used at the time of the update, the only way Windows can replace it is to reboot allowing it to replace the files.
The problem comes in when an install has made changes/references to these library in your registry. Now you have mismatched drivers. That is to say your registry may, for example, reference the library COMDLG.DLL as version 4.15.23 which is the new library added during the update, but the COMDLG.DLL, since it is a commonly used library and in-use at the time it never got replace and now doesn't match the registry settings.
This can cause many applications to puke and damage other files. That why you keep getting the pop-up to reboot because it is very important in protecting your stuff. In short I doubt there is a way to stop it without rebooting.
